My youngest son is really into Play-doh. He could play it for hours so when I saw this recipe I knew it would be a hit. It was easy to make and my boys have been playing with it for two hours now and showing no signs of stopping.
Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie play dough:
1 cup flour
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup salt
2 Tbsp cream of tartar
2 Tbsp cooking oil
1 cup water
orange food coloring (I just used equal parts red and yellow)
Mix all the ingredients except water and food coloring in a medium sauce pan. Add food coloring to water and gradually mix into other ingredients. Mix well. Stir over medium heat 3-5 minutes until it forms a ball in the center of the pot. Remove from pot and cool. Once it cools, knead it bit and play!
I started out giving them a few cookie cutters but they quickly got out the Play-doh toys.
While we waited for the dough to cool so they could play with it we made a special lunch. We had chicken salad on sandwich thins. We alternated apple slices and chips for the feathers, carrot for legs and beak, apple peel for the wattle and finished it off with candy eyes. The boys loved it!
We will be back tomorrow with Day 8 of our Thanksgiving countdown.
